Estates experiment with many ways of allocating labour and capital in order to increase productivity of harvesting and in-field collection of FFB, while reducing the cost of production. This article reports on the cost of the harvesting and mechanised in-field tranportation of FFB using mini-tractor and contractor.

The importance of safety and the priority given to it, will depend on each individual engineer’s understanding of the subject and no engineer will add to the costs of equipment and /or operation unless he is fully convinced of its importance.
