Potential of Oil Palm for Ferulic Acid Cultivation
Ng Mei Han*; Nu’man Abd. Hadi* and Yahaya Hawari*

Ferulic acid is a polyphenolic compound that has been found to exhibit various beneficial properties such as being antioxidant, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, etc. It is a lesser-known phenolic compound in the oil palm. The presence of ferulic acid was detected in various parts of the oil palm and its products such as the fruits, mesocarp fibre, empty fruit bunch (EFB), palm kernel cake (PKC) and fronds. The amount of ferulic acid that could be recovered from these sources depends largely on the extraction methods. Nevertheless, the oil palm and its products are good sources for the cultivation of natural ferulic acid.

Palm Kernel Crusher Plant Operation and Economic Feasibility

Palm kernels are produced in a palm oil mill but will usually be sent to a palm kernel crusher plant with a maximum of 6% dirt and 7% moisture content. Mechanical screw press extraction is most common in used to produce crude palm kernel oil (CPKO) complying with Malayan Edible Oil Manufacturers’ Association (MEOMA) specifications. […]

Application of Geospatial Technology in Mapping Ganoderma Disease Incidence of Oil Palm Smallholders in Johor: A Case Study

Geospatial technology has been extensively used in agriculture for data mining and analysis of spatial pattern and structure of plant disease. This study aimed to map the spatial distributions of the Ganoderma disease incidence in several districts in Johor under the area of oil palm smallholders. Data acquisition were conducted through ground census of the […]
