Energy and the poverty nexus in sustainable development: promoting renewable energy as a policy option for Malaysia

The central thrust of Malaysia’s national development policy is to ensure growth with equity, both spatially and among the multi-ethnic communities. In order to achieve this objective, successive national development plans, such as the three Outline Perspective Plans (OPPs), have given priority to measures aimed at sustaining high rates of economic growth and reducing poverty.
