A new cost-effective vacuum distillation process
BETHGE, Daniel

A new short-path/molecular distillation process, which has been introduced to the market this year, will be presented. Its main features are a simple concept requiring no mechanically moving parts, the possibility to treat large product quantities and extremely attractive investment costs. The duty of each distillation process consists in separating liquid mixtures into individual fractions using vapour pressure differences. This process, however, becomes problematic if individual constituents decompose or react in an undesired way at distillation temperature. The rate of decomposition and polymerization in general increases linearly to the residence time and exponentially to the temperature. In order to decrease the temperature, the distillation process takes place under vacuum, taking into account the residence time.
