Optimal utilisation of energy sources in a palm oil processing complex
CHUA N S

Over the last decade, we have seen tremendous changes taking place in the palm oil milling sector. Driven by higher fuel oil cost, and faced with problems of processing well developed and compact weevil-pollinated bunches with almost 50% increase in nut content, palm oil mill engineers and other engineers across the country took up the challenge by engaging themselves in research and development to find suitable solutions. As a result, we have today, automated multi peak sterilization, double stripping double-pressing, improved and larger nut processing stations, more efficient unit processes, etc. Most of these improvements required either more steam or electrical power.
