A one year survey was conducted from May 1998 to April 1999 to monitor the characteristics of Malaysian crude palm kernel oil (CPKO). Nineteen kernel crushers from all over Malaysia participated in the survey. All participants were requested to deliver their oil on monthly basis throughout the survey period. It was found that the mean fatty acid composition of the major fatty acids were as follows: lauric acid, 47.9%, myristic acid, 16.7%, palmitic acid, 8.5% and oleic acid, 15.0%. The mean moisture and impurities (M&amp,I) content was 0.127%, iodine value (I.V.) was 17.9, free fatty acid (FFA) content was 2.0% as lauric acid and colour was 6.1 Red and 60.4 Yellow.
