In view of the projected increase in palm oil production, the shortage of labour in oil palm plantations and smallholdings is not only a local shortage of labour in the short-term, but a real shortage of labour in the long run. This will be more severely felt in newly developed areas of Sabah and Sarawak and to a certain extent in Peninsualr Malaysia
