CANTAZ™ Elektro: Advancing Sustainable Mechanisation in Oil Palm Harvesting

Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) has made mechanisation a priority to raise productivity and sustainability in the oil palm industry. In 2007, MPOB introduced CANTAZ™, a motorised harvesting tool (Figure 1), aiming for more effective fresh fruit bunches (FFB) harvesting than manual methods. CANTAZ™ was powered by a small petrol engine and received favourable evaluation from the industry, leading to increased changes to harvesting practice and increased productivity (Abdul et al., 2018).
